THE THATCH PUB
The Thatch Inn is one of the great pubs in Croyde, located right in the heart of the village. The Thatch is a favourite pub of ours at CroydeBay.com and a great thing to do in Croyde any day of the week. The pub is a gorgeous traditional Devon stone barn with a thatched roof which dates back to the 16th century. Inside there are low beams, a big bar and in the winter, a roaring fire. In the summer, the pub does get really busy and there is an awesome vibe of happy people.
The crowd is an eclectic mix of surfers, tourists & locals. Weekend evenings are buzzing all year round with live music, open mic and local music artists taking over the far end of the pub on Friday and Saturday nights.
Make sure you head to The Thatch on Fridays and Saturdays to see a band play in the bar which creates for a great atmosphere. Usually there’s an open mic night on Sunday night unless it’s a bank holiday and then it’s normally on Monday evening.
During the summer months, the Thatch is always busy. The window boxes are overflowing with bright flowers and the tables are packed with happy people eating and drinking… The pub is just an all-round happy place to hang out. During the winter it’s much easier to grab a table.
At Croyde.bay we love the food at The Thatch. Sometimes we sneak in for breakfast as a full English as it really is a winner. Although famous for the huge loaded nachos, food and drink at The Thatch is good. In the peak season, it’s essential to get to the pub early to get a table, it’s not uncommon to have to wait. There is a restaurant with table service but if you wish to eat in the bar you need to order at the bar. It is possible to book, but at peak times tables are held for walk-in visitors on a first-come-first-served basis. The food is good pub grub complete with a specials board and a kids menu too – keeping everyone happy. The drinks are local real ales and ciders, lager wines and spirit – a huge range of gins and rums.
Occasionally there are fun themes planned, such as their famous rum night or pie week – check ‘The Thatch’ on Facebook to keep up with all their amazing events.
If you’re down the for the weekend, why not see if you can book in and stay? The accommodation ranges from B&B to self-contained – something for everyone.
We love it at The Thatch!
