Found on the South West coast, in the quaint Devon village of Braunton is this riverside restaurant, which serves up a whole host of delicious food and drinks in family-friendly surroundings.

The restaurant is family-run, owned by a local brother and sister duo who grow a lot of the ingredients on their family farm, making it even more personal. They pride themselves on serving fresh, delicious food in a comfortable environment, at affordable prices. And when the weather heats up, you can choose to dine alfresco on the patio area with the sun beaming down on you.

When it comes to menus, The Riverside Braunton has an enticing selection, which has gauged rave reviews from their ever-expanding customer base.

Breakfast

Start the day off right with The Riverside’s delicious breakfast options, served daily until 11.45am.

First thing’s first, if you’re suffering from the night before then a Bloody Mary ought to do the trick, and at only £4.50 you can have more than one without feeling guilty. Then, get stuck into the full English, with the special Riverside apple and black pudding sausage. For the non-meat-eaters, there’s a veggie option.

If a full fry-up isn’t for you, there’s a healthier selection, including homemade granola and crushed avo on toast with poached eggs.

After something sweet? You’ll be directed to the ‘Huge American Style Pancakes’ on the menu, with toppings including chocolate sauce, maple syrup, or blueberries and creamy Greek yoghurt.

Lunch

Lunch comes two-fold at The Riverside Braunton – There’s a specific lunch menu as well as a range of freshly-prepared sandwiches. On the main menu, there are sharers (try the Mezze board, it’s a must!), starters such as a daily soup, parfait and other sumptuous samplers. Then, the main menu offers healthy fresh salads, classic ‘pub’ style British mains, and a range of aptly named ‘Riverside Awesome Burgers’. Fancy a sarnie? Choose your favourite bread (including gluten-free options), then decide what you want it filled with. There’s a classic BLT, the famous ‘piggy roll’, with slow-cooked pork belly and tangy apple sauce, as well as a Ploughman’s, fish finger, and more.

Dinner

The dinner menu reflects what’s available at lunch, so if you visit for both meals, you don’t have to decide on just one tasty dish. Mains such as steak, chicken kiev, or a veggie Buddha bowl will satisfy your appetite, especially if you pair with one of the tempting sharers or starters, or both, beforehand. Just make sure you leave room for dessert!

Afternoon Tea

Of course, you can’t visit a restaurant in Devon without sampling one of The Riverside’s afternoon tea. Afternoon tea here consists of a selection of freshly-made sandwiches, including the classic smoked salmon and cream cheese, honey-roast ham and mustard mayo, followed by Mother Charlesworth’s homemade cakes, which are baked fresh every day. Finish with the classic scones, but remember, you’re in Devon, so it’s cream before jam! Sunday Roasts Picture this – it’s Sunday lunch, you’ve just enjoyed a gorgeous walk along the coast, but you’re feeling like you need to get those energy levels back up. The answer – The Riverside’s Sunday roast. Exmoor beef, North Devon lamb, or organic chicken breast – all portions are locally-reared and served with the traditional trimmings. Want more roasties or gravy? Just ask!

Kids menu

For small tums, The Riverside Braunton serves up a range of starters, mains and desserts, as well as a Sunday roast option. Plus, the portions are sized based on their age, so you can choose from either 1-4 years or 5-10 years, to reduce any food waste.

Drinks

Choose from hot drinks such as coffees, teas, or freshly-pressed juices, milkshakes, soft drinks, and beers and wine. The wine list is designed to suit the range of lunch, dinner, and Sunday roast dishes, or you could start off your meal with a glass of fizz. There’s even a cocktail menu for those special occasions, too. So, if it’s a family-friendly, laid-back restaurant you’re looking for with some of the best food in the surrounding village, The Riverside Braunton is just what you’re after. Top tip – There’s also a curry night takeaway option, great for if you’re staying locally and just want to relax in the comfort of your own room with a range of yummy dishes.
